The game ended 2-1 to Liverpool but any celebrations to be had from the fans were marred by another racist incident
After the game it emerged that police were investigating the alleged gesture which was captured on TV footage. The image was distributed on social networking websites and a number of complaints were made to police.
A police spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 59-year-old man from North Wales has been arrested this evening following an alleged incident at the LFC vs MUFC match. The man has been taken to a police station and will be questioned by officers."
