ANDY TOWNSEND: Thank goodness I don't have to save Ronny's free-kicks

Sometimes my job gets me into the best places, such as standing behind the goal when Cristiano Ronaldo is lining up a free-kick. Well, it has to be a better place than being the goalie and trying to save his shots. On Tuesday night, as Manchester United's training was winding down in the Olympic Stadium, Ronaldo decided to practise his free-kicks. Right, I thought, now I'll see how many times it takes him to score. Thirty yards out, wide of the goal, shot one... goal one. Top corner, dipping a little at the end, clearly quickening and moving a bit right and then left. I shook my head in admiration. The boy has a special weapon. One goalkeeping expert, who has analysed trying to save these shots, said to me recently: 'You dive full length, stretching with all your might because that's where you think it's going and you might be lucky if you save it with your b*******. That's how much it moves back in.'
