Ancelotti: Di Maria Has Said His Goodbyes

Manchester United have moved a step closer into making a record-breaking signing for Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria.

Amidst speculation about his future, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Di Maria has missed training with the Spanish Giants today.

“Di Maria has not trained with us today and he came in to say goodbye to the players and people at the club,” Ancelotti revealed in a press conference in Madrid.

“We are thankful for what he has done at this club. There is nothing official yet but it is being sorted out. I am very happy with the work that he has done for Madrid but we the chance to replace him well.

“The decision is his and the club has done what it could to keep him here but he thought differently and so good luck to him.”

The 26-year old rejected a new contract with Real Madrid this summer and asked to leave the club despite Ancelotti stating that Los Blancos were keen on keeping him.

If the rumored fee of £60 million is agreed it would smash the Premier League club record, which refers to the £50 million paid by Chelsea to Liverpool for Fernando Torres.

Red’s Boss Louis Van Gaal has not hidden the fact that he wants Di Maria at Old Trafford and after top contenders Paris Saint-Germain dropped out of the race to comply with Fifa Fair Play rules, a move to United now seems to be edging closer.

Van Gaal has previously stated that he looks for players that are able to adapt to his unique playing style and those are the players he targets. He brought on Dutch International, Arjen Robben, to Bayern Munich as he knew the striker could fit into his style comfortably. So Van Gaal must believe that Di Maria can adapt to the Dutchman’s tactics.

The summer transfer window closes next week and the Red Devils are desperate for a world-class signing after seeing their first defeat already against Swansea City last week.
