Middlesbrough's record signing Afonso Alves could be handed the chance to rediscover his goal touch for the reserves on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Brazilian has been named in a strong squad, which also includes Ross Turnbull, Justin Hoyte, Julio Arca and Josh Walker, to face Manchester United at the Riverside Stadium.Alves, a £12.7million signing from Dutch club Heerenveen, last started a senior game in the 0-0 Premier League draw with Wigan on February 21, and has made only two appearances as a substitute in the six matches since. He has not scored since the 2-1 FA Cup fourth-round victory at Wolves on January 24, and his last league goal came a fortnight earlier against Sunderland.Boro have struggled for goals all season - they have managed only 21 in 30 league matches - and Alves has just seven, three of them in the FA Cup.Boro have won only one of their last 18 Premier League games and are second from bottom, four points from safety with just 24 left to play for.
