Fourth placed Manchester United have been boosted today by news that long term target Thomas Muller could be eyeing a change of scenery.

The World Cup winner had been a target of the Red Devils in the summer with Muller admitting he turned down a big money move to Old Trafford. But the Daily Star report that Louis van Gaal hasn't given up hope of signing the 25-year-old and has been boosted by news that the German international is willing to leave the Bundesliga champions for pastures new.

It's thought the player is pining for a new challenge and has tasked his agent with finding a new club, with Manchester United being a likely destination.

These reports come as a shock as Muller himself publicly stated he wasn't thinking about a move away from Bayern Munich, although he did claim his relationship with van Gaal was indeed special:

"It's no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players.

"[But] I have a contract with Bayern Munich until summer 2017."
