While news of deals-already-done has been trickling in steadily ever since the Barclays Premier League season finished, the summer transfer window only officially opened on July 1.

Two whole months remain in which clubs can conduct their business but competition is fierce and some of Europe’s hottest targets have already been snapped up. Here are some of the big names who are left…

1. Sergio Ramos

In the last seven days it has emerged that Real Madrid and Spain centre-back Ramos has not yet signed an extension to a contract which expires in June 2017.

Manchester United are reportedly considering submitting a near £30million bid for the services of a 29-year-old who has won the Primera Division, the Champions League, and the World Cup.

2. Paul Pogba

If United are working feverishly towards bolstering their defence then Manchester City’s priority lies in reinvigorating their midfield.
Pogba is arguably the hottest property in Europe but the Juventus and France star is valued at a daunting £71million and is reportedly more interested in exploring a potential move to Barcelona.

3. William Carvalho

This combative yet skilful midfielder was a star of the recent European Under-21 Championship as Portugal reached the final before losing to Sweden.

He had already caught the eye of the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, though, and they will have to move quickly now his profile has been lifted by his exploits in the Czech Republic.

4. Arda Turan

The 81-cap Turkey international has been one of the driving forces behind Atletico Madrid’s revival, winning La Liga with the capital club and finishing as a runner-up in the Champions League final.

The 28-year-old midfielder is now open to leaving Spain and recent reports have linked the pass master with both Chelsea and Manchester United.

5. Bas Dost

Wolfsburg are determined to retain the services of a striker who scored 16 Bundesliga goals before cementing the Wolves’ cup-final victory over Borussia Dortmund with an emphatic header.

Dost has been urged to snub strong interest from Newcastle, whose new coach Steve McClaren – formerly of FC Twente – knows all about the Dutchman’s free-scoring days in the Eredivisie.

6. Jeremain Lens

While Newcastle plot their next approach for Dost, down the road Sunderland are said to be closing in on a new attacking threat of their own – Dynamo Kiev’s Holland international Lens.

The versatile 27-year-old was part of the Dutch squad which finished third at last year’s World Cup and Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat knows him well from their time at PSV Eindhoven together.
