WORLD CUP 2010: Gareth Barry gives England selection boost for Algeria clash
Gareth Barry is ready to become England's World Cup saviour after declaring himself fit and ready to face Algeria on Friday if Fabio Capello opts to change his team.[LNB]Barry was sorely missed against the United States in Saturday's 1-1 draw, with Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard struggling to take a grip on midfield without the holding qualities of the Manchester City player behind him.[LNB]But Barry, who at one stage feared an ankle injury would rule him out of the World Cup all together, now says he is completely ready if selected.[LNB] Count me in: Gareth Barry was forced to miss England's opening draw with USA through injury but he is fit to face Algeria on Friday[LNB]He said: 'I've trained four times this week, the ankle feels great and there's no problem with that. [LNB]'Obviously in terms of real fitness and game fitness I'm short and that's probably what kept me out today. But after another week's training I'll be ready for Algeria.[LNB]Ready to go: Fit again Barry can't wait to step back into action[LNB]'To be honest I would have played against the States if asked - the ankle feels fine. [LNB]'But after a few tough sessions maybe it was a tough call for me to be completely right. [LNB]'I'm sure I'll be ready by the next game and I'll definitely be available.'[LNB]Barry had to watch from the sidelines as England were held to a 1-1 draw and admits it was not an ideal result.[LNB]He said: 'The lads are disappointed becuase we wanted to win the game. [LNB]'But overall we created the better chances and on another day we could have won it by three or four quite easily. [LNB]'It wasn't to be but we can take positives from the game and we know it's still down to us to qualify.'[LNB] Calamity!
