World Cup 2010: Adam Johnson looks ahead to Euro 2012 after Fabio Capello backing

The Manchester City winger was overlooked in favour of Eastlands team-mate Shaun Wright-Phillips when Capello named his World Cup squad on Tuesday. [LNB]Having started the season in the Championship with Middlesbrough, the 22 year-old had looked set to cap an incredible campaign, which saw him seal a £7 million move to City in January, by earning a World Cup call-up. [LNB]England v Andorra: We have one foot in World Cup finals, says Wayne RooneyBut after missing the cut, Johnson insists he has been buoyed by reassurances from within the England camp that he will play a key role in the future. [LNB]Johnson said: 'Of course I was a bit down when I got the news. My first thought was that I wish I'd had more of a chance to show what I could do in the two warm-up matches. [LNB]'But the England management made it clear to me that I have an international future and I am going to have a rest now and then try to work my way into the side for September [Euro 2012] qualifiers. [LNB]'If you had mentioned the World Cup to me back in December, I would have smiled, but I had a thought in the back of my mind when I signed for City that if I did well I might have half a chance. [LNB]'I am going to take the positives out of the last two weeks, though. I have worked with the squad, I have an England cap I know that I will be in the mind of the coach and his staff for the future.' [LNB]Johnson insists he feels no bitterness towards Wright-Phillips following his selection for South Africa. [LNB]'I have spoken to Shaun, wished him good luck and told him to go and do well.' Johnson said. 'There are certainly no hard feelings towards him.'[LNB]
