West Ham track free agent striker after missing out on City's Benjani

West Ham tried to sign Manchester City striker Benjani as cover for Carlton Coleon deadline day but failed because they could not track down his agent. The Hammers also ran out of time to sign Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh,who remains a target for later in the season. But the Upton Park outfit revealed on the club's official website that they are exploring the possibility of signing an unnamed free agent striker, thought to be Mark Viduka. The statement read: 'Gianluca Nani (technical director) and Gianfranco Zola are now discussing the possibility of an out of contract striker joining the club who has been tracked in the past month.'
