United win adds spice to climax

TEAMtalk's Joe Williams believes Manchester United arguably didn't deserve to win at Eastlands - but feels the result has spiced the season up.[LNB] What a difference a goal can make![LNB]Paul Scholes' last-gasp winner kept Manchester United in the hunt for their 19th English title and left Manchester City fans wondering what could have been.[LNB]Although this was not a performance of the highest order, it was one typical of a title-winning side. This was a game which neither team looked like winning and maybe neither team deserved to win. [LNB]United controlled much of the possession in a game of few chances.[LNB]Experience told in the end, though, and with less than 20 seconds left on the clock, Paul Scholes nodded in a delightful cross from Patrice Evra to send the United supporters into raptures. [LNB]The injury-time winner piles the pressure back on Chelsea when they face Tottenham at White Hart Lane. [LNB]If Spurs were to get a result against the Blues it really blows the door back open for United to tip-toe in. [LNB]It was fitting that a player that has won so many championship honours with United showed the class of champions to haul them back into the race. [LNB]Scholes signed a new contract during the week to keep him at the club for yet another season and if United are to win the title this season it will be the experienced players who guide them across the finishing line. [LNB]Wayne Rooney didn't look at the races, which begs the question is Sir Alex Ferguson rushing him back too soon? [LNB]This may be controversial after his recent displays but I would much rather have a fully-fit Dimitar Berbatov playing over a 70 per-cent fit Rooney. [LNB]For me Fergie has to put more faith in his Bulgarian striker otherwise he will never shine for the Red Devils. [LNB]I think Chelsea - with all their firepower - will win the league, but United's 'never-say-die' attitude definitely leaves the possibility of them proving me wrong.[LNB]The blue half of Manchester will no doubt be distraught at the thought of losing to their closest rivals, but this result adds extra spice for the remainder of the season.[LNB]It doesn't just open up the chase for honours, but this could see Spurs climb above City and into that final Champions League position.[LNB]City's players didn't lack effort in this tussle but were without a killer ball in the last third of the pitch. [LNB]Gareth Barry didn't have the best of games and I would have liked to see Stephen Ireland introduced earlier, as I think he gives City something different going forward.[LNB]If City are to challenge their great rivals next season they are going to have to invest heavily in their midfield. [LNB]Shaun Wright-Phillips is a skillful right-winger on his day, but I can't see him cutting it at the truly top level of European football. [LNB]Only time will tell if the encouraging Adam Johnson will become the player that will be able to perform in the big games. [LNB]Depending on how far City think they can go next season then a world-class winger is a must. [LNB]No matter how you feel about the result at Eastlands it has given the neutrals something to chew on for the rest of this enthralling campaign.
