Lazio have been told to improve promising goalkeeper Fernando Muslera's contract or risk losing him to Manchester United. Reports in Italy claim the Uruguay international is on Sir Alex Ferguson's short list in the hunt for Edwin van der Sar's replacement. United have been also linked with CSKA Moscow's Igor Akinfeev, West Ham United's Robert Green, Schalke's Manuel Neuer and Bayer Leverkusen's Rene Adler as Holland veteran Van der Sar approaches the twilight of his Old Trafford career. Muslera, 23, has established himself as the first choice at Lazio this season and he is set to be rewarded with a new deal. He is reportedly paid just £220,000 a year - less than £5,000 a week - and there are negotiations not only increase his pay but also insert a hefty buy-out clause in his contract. Manchester City are said to have failed in a bid to sign him just before the close of the transfer window and Arsenal have also been linked with him.
