The Bayern Munich star has been told he can leave in January for £4 million.

Van Bommel starred for Holland at the World Cup, but has struggled to hold down a regular place this season with the German champions.

Spurs and City are ready to pounce for the 33-year-old, but they are likely to face competition from Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg.

The Denmark international is keen as the ideal defensive solution to Chelsea's recent problems, and could be theirs for around £7m.
