Toure: Fergie exit could help City

Yaya Toure hopes the balance of footballing power in Manchester will shift City's way following Sir Alex Ferguson's departure as United manager.

City pipped United to the Barclays Premier League title in memorable fashion last year only for their neighbours to reclaim the crown in emphatic style this year. That has proved the final, glorious act of Ferguson's reign at Old Trafford with the veteran boss announcing his decision to retire at the end of the season.

Inspirational City midfielder Toure, speaking at the club's pre-FA Cup final media day, said: "It will make a big difference. He is a great guy, a great manager and I hope he stays in football. He has done something unbelievable for that club."

Then, smiling, he added: "For us, I think it is going to be very important. It is looking like Manchester City will start to dominate the Premier League - I hope!"

City have spent most of Ferguson's 26-year tenure living in United's considerable shadow. The Scot has overseen 13 Premier League title successes as well as two Champions League victories.

News of his retirement has commanded huge headlines but City hope they can create plenty more themselves as they face Wigan in the FA Cup final at Wembley this weekend.

Midfielder James Milner said: "I don't think that affects us really. We concentrate on our business over here and it's obviously big news but all we are concentrating on is the FA Cup final.

"It's not going to be any more open than it would have been if he was there next year. He's been an amazing manager for them over the years, his record is ridiculous, unreal, but we are concerned on our side."

City captain Vincent Kompany expects United to be equally as powerful under new manager David Moyes.

The Belgian said: "I can't see the ambition for any team changing because of the changes in manager. I wouldn't expect any weakened opposition because of that."
