Tottenham to sell Darren Bent and chase Richard Dunne
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham manager, has yet to make a summer signing but has made it clear that he wants to make changes, particularly in attack.
Bent is understood to have opened talks with view to a move to the North East, having scored 24 goals in 77 appearances for Spurs.
One option could be for a swap deal with Bent switching with Kenwyne Jones, a target for Redknapp last season, who remains a great admirer of the former Southampton forward.
And if the Spurs manager can offload Bent, who would cost Sunderland around £10 million, then he can pursue a succession of players and that includes Dunne.
The Manchester City defender has been linked with Sunderland since May and looked certain to move to the Stadium of Light for £5m.
But with Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King, his first-choice centre-backs, prone to injury, Redknapp is keen to sign a quality defender and Dunne could fit the bill.
Redknapp is also believed to be keeping an eye on Stoke's highly-rated former Manchester United defender Ryan Shawcross.
But another player who could leave is Welsh full-back Gareth Bale. Several clubs are keen on the former Southampton player and Birmingham are considering making a bid to take him to St Andrews on loan.
