Tottenham have completed the signing of Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong for an initial fee of £8million. Bassong, 23, signed a five-year deal following a medical and the fee could rise to £12m if performance-related clauses are met. Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, is still facing a central defensive headache because Bassong will miss the first two games after being sentoff against Fulham last season. Ledley King played his first match since the end of last season in training but Redknapp does not know if his skipper will be ready to face Liverpool a week on Sunday. Jonathan Woodgate was also back at the training ground after travelling to the USA for a probe into a groin problem and Michael Dawson will miss the start of the season due to an achilles injury. Redknapp admitted he was still undecided as to what course of action to take with Woodgate. 'All the opinions have been quite different,' he said. 'We don't know the best case scenario but the start of the season looks iffy.'
