Toffees reject City Lescott bid

Everton have confirmed they have rejected a bid from Premier League rivals Manchester City for defender Joleon Lescott. City made a formal offer of £15million on Thursday for the England international in a week that they wrapped up the signing of Carlos Tevez. Mark Hughes wants the former Wolves central defender, who can also operate at left-back, to partner John Terry at the heart of what would be a new-look defence. However, it seems Hughes' dream partnership may not have a happy ending with Everton and Chelsea remaining firm in their desire to keep their star defenders. Everton chief executive Robert Elstone insists the Merseysiders are against losing any of manager David Moyes' players over the summer. "As a club, we have publicly stated - as recently as Wednesday night - that we do not intend selling any players," Elstone told the club's official website. "David Moyes' primary focus is on building a squad so that we can continue to compete effectively in what is the most competitive league in world football."
