The gloves are off as 'disgusted' Given blasts Newcastle over Man City move

Battered Newcastle United[LNB]took another direct hit yesterday when transfer-window escapees Shay Given and Charles N'Zogbia laid bare the shortcomings of their old club. [LNB]Goalkeeper Given, who spent 12 largely enjoyable years by the Tyne, revealed his anger with the way the Newcastle hierarchy had handled his troubled, drawn-out £6million move to Manchester City[LNB]. [LNB]Winger N'Zogbia, still smarting over Joe Kinnear's TV reference to him as 'Insomnia', confessed Steve Bruce needed only five minutes to persuade him to make the £6.5m switch to Wigan from a club that 'needs somebody in control'. [LNB] Parting shot: Given has had a go at the Magpies[LNB] Newcastle sit just one point clear of the relegation zone and face a crucial match against bottom side West Bromwich[LNB]tomorrow. [LNB] Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Given claimed: 'The way they dealt with the whole thing was a bit disgusting. The way they dealt with my family and me, they could have made it a little easier. [LNB]Getaway man: Given has been rescued from his Newcastle misery by City boss Mark Hughes[LNB] 'Considering the service I gave the club, the regime could have looked after the whole thing better. They made me do things that I didn't want to do in the end. It's a difficult time for Newcastle and the fans deserve better. [LNB] 'Things are a lot more stable at Manchester City. The manager at Newcastle is only in charge until the end of the season and the club was up for sale, then it wasn't. There is a very stable footing here.'[LNB]France Under 21 winger N'Zogbia missed the atmosphere encouraged by Kevin Keegan as well as a strong voice calling the shots. [LNB] He said: 'When Keegan was there it was fine. Now nobody is saying anything and players are wondering what is going on. They need someone who can control the club properly. If you don't know who's in charge, you don't know what's going on.' [LNB]The final straw was Kinnear's TV faux pas. N'Zogbia said: 'When the manager says something like that, he doesn't respect you. If he doesn't respect you, he must not want you to play for him. [LNB]'He might talk to some players, but not to everyone. I can forgive him, that's no problem. I don't know if he did that on purpose to make me angry but I'll just move on.' [LNB] Angry: N'Zogbia during his stint at Newcastle[LNB] [LNB]Given's low point, perhaps the point of no return, was the 5-1 home defeat by Liverpool[LNB]at the turn of the year. [LNB]He said: 'The last six months has been fizzling out and it's not been enjoyable going in to training. But it came to a head after the Liverpool game. It was a real kick in the teeth, for the fans, for everybody. [LNB]'I was that low that, when I was walking off the pitch, I would have been happy if I never saw another football.' [LNB]Swipe: Kinnear[LNB] The criticism from Given took Kinnear by surprise yesterday and he passed the buck to the club's board. He said: 'I was the last person who wanted to see him leave. I said I would pass on his transfer request which I did and from there I took only a small part.' [LNB] However, Kinnear could not resist another swipe at N'Zogbia. He said: 'Charles lived in a fantasy world. First of all he came in and told me Arsenal[LNB]wanted to buy him, then it was Villa[LNB], then Manchester United[LNB], then Real Madrid. He clearly did not want to be at the club so there was only one thing I could do, send him to Wigan.'[LNB] [LNB] City don't have a blank chequebook, insists Hughes[LNB]Hey big spenders - so refined or profligates extraordinaire?
