Tevez "maybe should apologise" - Mancini

24 December 2010 08:30
Roberto Mancini has suggested Carlos Tevez should apologise to the Manchester City supporters to help restore his standing among the Eastlands faithful. In echoes of the wrangle which enveloped Wayne Rooney at Manchester United, Tevez became embroiled in a bitter week-long exchange with City once it became known that he had handed in a transfer request. As with Rooney, the drama ended abruptly when Tevez confirmed that he had agreed to withdraw his demand to leave, even if doubts over his long-term future remain. It has not been forgotten that Rooney eventually said sorry to the United support for his actions, having signed a five-year contract which extended his stay at Old Trafford until 2015. Now Mancini has admitted Tevez may benefit from adopting a similar approach. "I don't know. Maybe he should apologise," Mancini said. Not that the Italian feels City's supporters are disaffected with the South American, who retained the captain's armband for Monday's home defeat to Everton. "It is important now that Carlos plays well and scores goals," Mancini added. "But the fans still love him."
