Carlos Tevez has revealed that Argentina coach Diego Maradona ordered him to sign for Manchester City as he found it 'ugly' watching him stuck on the bench at Manchester United. Tevez has denied United boss Sor Alex Ferguson's claim that he agreed a deal with City in January, but he has admitted that Maradona tried to persuade him to join City at the turn of the year. Tevez said: 'Yes, now Diego is happy. I have talked to him before I signed. 'He is happy because now I can play more often. He came to watch me (at United) when we played Chelsea but I did not play any single minute. That was very ugly to him and to me.' The Mirror have reported that Maradona approached Tevez after United's clash with Chelsea in January, when the Argentine striker stayed on the bench. Tevez with Maradona prior to a Boca Juniors game in 2004 Tevez has played down talk that City can challenge for the Premier League title, despite their new wealth and star signings. He added: 'My challenge is to win something with City or to qualify tothe Champions or UEFA Cup. The Premier League? This is a long-termobjective.' Tevez travelled with manager Mark Hughes and the other big summer signings Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz on a flight to meet owner Sheikh Mansour in Abu Dhabi, and will then fly on to South Africa for a two-match tour. The Argentine almost single-handedly saved West Ham from relegation two years ago, and then enjoyed two splendid seasons at United, with successive Premier League titles and an unforgettable European Cup win againsy Chelsea in Moscow.
