Carlos Tevez is expected to appeal after being found guilty of misconduct by Manchester City.
City announced on Tuesday night they had effectively concluded that Tevez did refuse to play against Bayern Munich last month and have fined him four weeks' wages.
Press Association Sport understands the Argentinian will contest the ruling and he is even considering suing manager Roberto Mancini for defamation over his post-match comments at the Allianz Arena.
Mancini claimed Tevez had refused to play as a substitute during the second half of the 2-0 Champions League loss on September 27 and was "finished" at the club as a result. Tevez denied the allegation and blamed a misunderstanding, claiming he thought he was being asked to warm up and he felt that was unnecessary.
The 27-year-old striker, who attended a disciplinary hearing last Friday, is sticking by that assertion even though City have made clear they view the matter entirely differently.
Tevez has 14 days to formally announce whether he will appeal to the club's directors. Should he do so and a ruling again go against him, he could appeal for a second time to the Premier League.
A City statement read: "Following a detailed investigation and associated hearing, a disciplinary panel has upheld the charge of misconduct. Five separate breaches of contract formed the basis of the decision by the panel.
"As a result Carlos Tevez has been fined four weeks' wages and has been suspended for a period of two weeks (deemed to have already been served). He has received a written warning as to his future conduct.
"Carlos Tevez has been informed in writing of the decision of the disciplinary panel, and the club has written to the Professional Footballers' Association for ratification of the fine."
The breaches include a failure to play when requested and a failure to carry out the instructions of a club official.
