Carlos Tevez will have to prove his fitness if he is going to play a part in Manchester City's Premier League opener against Blackburn. The Argentina international has been pulled out of his country's friendly against Russia on Wednesday, but still faces an uphill battle to start the league campaign against Rovers. Tevez played 25 minutes of City's friendly against Celtic on Saturday, although the 25-year-old struggled to overcome a heel problem in the 2-1 win. Manager Mark Hughes is doubtful the striker will start the game at Ewood Park, as his appearance against Celtic was only the first of the pre-season campaign. "I would like to think Carlos will play a part on Saturday although we will have to see how this week goes before we decide whether to start him or not," said Hughes. "He has been a bit frustrated because he has not been able to put any weight on the heel for the vast majority of pre-season and has been chomping at the bit to play. "But he looked really sharp when he came on, and the reaction he got from the crowd was fantastic. "He is going to do great things for us. His energy gives the team a trigger and a focus for when we want to press and engage people. He is going to be really important."
