Football.co.uk's Joe Strange looks back over the weekend's Premier League action to pick his team of the week.

Goalkeeper - Ben Foster, Birmingham City

After a mistake-filled stint at Manchester United, Foster continues to defy his critics at new club Birmingham. The England man put in another superb performance at home to Chelsea on Saturday, denying the likes of Didier Drogba and Alex to help his side to a much-needed 1-0 win.

Right-back - Glen Johnson, Liverpool

Despite rumours of a fall-out with manager Roy Hodgson, Johnson was back in Liverpool's starting XI after returning to full fitness. He didn't disappoint, scoring the winning goal in his side's 3-0 win and putting in a confident defensive performance against his former club West Ham.

Central defence - William Gallas, Tottenham Hotspur

After being snubbed by former team-mate Samir Nasri during the pre-match handshake and seeing his side go 2-0 down, it would've been easy for Gallas' head to have gone down. But the Spurs skipper helped rally his team-mates as they came back to record a magnificent 3-2 away win over Arsenal.

Central defence - Kolo Toure, Manchester City

City have been strong defensively so far this season and it was no different at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. Kolo Toure expertly dealt with Fulham's limited threat, providing his side with a solid base from which to build on. His partnership with Vincent Kompany will be vital to Roberto Mancini this season.

Left-back - Patrice Evra, Manchester United

With Wayne Rooney only just returning from injury and Dimitar Berbatov out of form, united have had to rely on others to get their goals over the last month. Evra popped up with the winner against Wigan on Saturday, an unstoppable diving header past Ali Al Habsi.

Right-midfield - Morten Gamst Pedersen, Blackburn Rovers

Pedersen has found his goalscoring touch in recent weeks and he was on the score-sheet again with two goals against Aston Villa on Sunday. The Norwegian winger swung in a trademark free-kick which deceived Brad Friedel to open the scoring and secure all three points, then cleverly stuck out a leg to divert Ryan Nelson's wayward shot into the net.

Central-midfield - Yaya Toure, Manchester City

Normally regarded as a defensive midfielder, Toure has taken on a more attacking role in recent weeks. This was on full display against Fulham as the former Barcelona man continually burst forward, scoring his side's first goal in a convincing 4-1 win.

Central-midfield - Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal

Fabregas was at his best during the first-half of Arsenal's 3-2 defeat to bitter rivals Tottenham. The Gunners captain set up Samir Nasri's opening goal and was at the centre of everything good that Arsene Wenger's men did.

Left-midfield - Gareth Bale, Tottenham Hotspur

After a quiet first-half which saw his side 2-0 down at the break, Bale burst into life during the second period. His delightful finish got Tottenham back into the game and then he grew in confidence as the game went on. A driving run led to the free-kick for Younnes Kaboul's winning goal.

Striker - Carlos Tevez, Manchester City

City talisman Tevez was back to his best yesterday, helping his side to a 4-1 romp away at Fulham. The Argentine led from the front, scoring twice and setting up Yaya Toure's first-half strike.

Striker - Johan Elmander, Bolton Wanderers

After a fantastic goalscoring record away from home this season, Elmander finally found the net at the Reebok as Bolton thrahsed Newcastle United 5-1. The Swede scored two goals and provided a constant threat to the opposition defence.
