SWP understands Ireland

Shaun Wright-Phillips insists there is no issue with Manchester City team-mate Stephen Ireland and the rest of the squad after he accused certain players of going missing in key games. The Irishman made the comments immediately after City had lost 3-1 to Hamburg in the first leg of their Uefa Cup quarter final tie in Germany. But the former Chelsea ace understands Ireland's frustrations and insists that no one in the squad took the comments the wrong way. City have a chance to put things right on Thursday when they welcome the Germans to Eastlands for the return leg in front of a packed house. "He was upset about losing. Maybe it didn't come across as he'd have liked," the winger told the club's official website. "But there are no hard feelings from any of us. We all get along." City followed up the Hamburg defeat with another lethargic performance as they went down 3-1 at home to Fulham on Sunday. Manager Mark Hughes has voiced concerns that his players may now be feeling the effects of a long hard season that started back in July. But Wright-Phillips, who missed the Cottagers defeat with an ankle injury, is adamant that he will not be using tiredness as an excuse as the season draws to a close. "Only players can understand what it's like, travelling and playing every three days, it gets on top of you," he added. "But for me it's mind over matter. Once you kick-off you forget you're tired."
