MEN Sport understands Wigan, West Brom, West Ham and Blackburn have all made inquiries to take the one-time darling of the fans on loan. But the Blues are standing firm, rejecting loan deals for the £9m-rated winger, preferring instead to sell him or any other stars who boss Roberto Mancini sees as surplus to requirements. Wright-Phillips, who is half-way through a £60,000-a-week contract and has turned down one offer to extend that on improved terms, has emerged as the most likely departure from Eastlands next month, with clubs expected to make firm bids when the transfer window opens. Another player who is being targeted is Emmanuel Adebayor, with Aston Villa now joining Juventus in expressing an interest. Mancini has also had to field loan inquiries for England left-back Wayne Bridge from West Ham and Fulham, while former club Blackburn are believed to be in for striker Roque Santa Cruz. Keeper Shay Given, who has lost his place in the City line-up to Joe Hart, has interested Celtic, Fulham and Arsenal and it is highly likely he?ll be on the move next month. A City insider said: ?We do have interest in players who could strengthen our squad, but we?ll not be held to ransom and we certainly won?t be paying any kind of so-called City premium. ?The squad has been strengthened substantially over the last two years and now it is a case of managing that squad. ?We are exactly where we would hope to be in the Premier League at this state of our development. ?The squad has improved over two years in the period it would take other clubs 10 years. ?We are currently attempting to manage the squad base down, but it is highly unlikely there will be any loan deals.? MEN Sport can reveal that never again will City sanction the kind of deal that took Craig Bellamy to Cardiff with the mega-rich Blues paying over half the winger?s £65,000-a-week wages while he is at the Championship side. Under a complex formula thrashed out with the Welsh club, City will get ALL the wages back if Cardiff are promoted. The payback formula is also based on appearances and goals scored. The club insider said: ?The Bellamy deal was definitely a one-off dictated by certain circumstances.
