Sven sensation! Notts County's bid to take former England boss Eriksson to League Two

21 July 2009 15:13
Notts County are set to pull off an amazing coup by appointing Sven Goran Eriksson as director of football at Meadow Lane. The League Two club's ambitious new Arab owners are determined to land a major name - preferably with international experience - and have already approached the Swede. Sportsmail understands that the former England boss, who will demand wages of about £40,000 a week will be officially unveiled by the Football League's oldest club at a press conference on Wednesday morning. The Munto Finance consortium are planning a 10-year overhaul of the Football League founder members which would most likely see Eriksson appointed in an overseeing role with the responsibility to restructure the club.  It is thought that current manager Ian McParland will keep his job, while the incoming Eriksson would work in a directorship position. It would mark an incredible journey from England manager to the environs of a club in the bottom division of English professional football, but Eriksson has shown in the past that he is open to newchallenges, particularly if the salary is right. Russian giants Zenit StPetersburg, who would be willing to pay their next boss at least£40,000 a week, are believed to have keen on speaking to Eriksson. Eriksson, who has also been linked to Portsmouth, has been looking for a new job since being sacked by Mexico in April. The former Manchester City, Lazio and Benfica boss was paid about £2min compensation by the North Americans - his third seven-figure payoffin three years. Another former England boss Glenn Hoddle had also been touted as a potential recruit at County, whose new chairman and chief executive Peter Trembling believes that the club's potential can be unlocked by the investment from overseas. When the takeover went through last week, he said: 'I firmly believe this is a momentous day for all those involved with Notts County, particularly the club's loyal supporters.'
