Stoke boss Tony Pulis has revealed he tried to sign Craig Bellamy before the Welshman returned home to Cardiff. [LNB]Bellamy will spend the season on loan with the Bluebirds after leaving Manchester City. [LNB]Tottenham, Fulham, Bolton and Celtic were all hoping to land the Wales captain but, like Pulis, were left disappointed. [LNB] Local hero: Bellamy has returned home to help Cardiff in their promotion push[LNB]'We inquired about Craig,' Pulis told The Sentinel. 'But unfortunately for us his main concern was getting back to Wales to be close to his young family. [LNB]'Cardiff is also his hometown club, so it all fitted for him to make that move instead of the other offers on the table for him. [LNB]'Craig is 31 now and has done a hell of a lot of moving over the years when you look at all the clubs he has played for. [LNB]'It would have been nice if we could have sorted something out because we all know what an asset he can be as a player.[LNB] 'He brings skill and energy to any team, and is a born winner full of passion, which inspires those around him.' [LNB]No go: Stoke boss Pulis missed out[LNB]Bellamy was squeezed out at Eastlands after a host of big names arrived during the summer and the forward jumped at the chance to go back home to his wife and kids.[LNB] It was reported that Bellamy had a frosty relationship with City manager Roberto Mancini but chief executive Garry Cook had nothing but praise for the player. [LNB]He said: 'I am sure City fans have enjoyed seeing Craig play for City. He has been a great performer for us since joining in January 2009, and I would like to go on record as thanking him for his effort and determination to our cause.[LNB] 'It is clear that it was right for Craig to make a move, and Manchester City has the utmost respect for the choice he has made. [LNB]'It was an admirable decision, and we wish him and Cardiff City all the very best for his new challenge.' [LNB]Bellamy is set to make his Cardiff debut at home to Doncaster on Saturday.
