Manchester City have been handed a nightmare scenario by Tottenham - carry on paying Emmanuel Adebayor ?100,000 a week, even if he goes on loan to White Hart Lane.

The London club are unwilling to break their wage structure to land the former Arsenal striker, and are only prepared to pay ?60,000 of his ?160,000 a week wages.

City may be forced to take Spurs up on this offer, so desperate are they for the player to move on.

Roberto Mancini has insisted he will never play Adebayor again.

The big-spenders were hoping Real Madrid would pay the ?14m asking price after they took him on loan last season.

But the Spanish giants didn't want any deal, and according to the Mirror City and Spurs could go ahead with their unlikely arrangement.
