Spurs 2 Man City 2: We're thinking bigger than Europa League, say City

Khaldoon al Mubarak left White Hart Lane in a hurry, making a dash for the airport, perhaps on a quest for a silver lining. The Manchester City chairman had just sampled an end-of-season feeling depressingly familiar to those who have followed this club for any length of time. City's quest for Europe spluttered to a halt on the day when Manchester United were celebrating another Barclays Premier League title. It was left to executive chairman Garry Cook to insist the Arab owners were content to finish their first season in mid-table and that failure to qualify for the Europa League was a blessing in disguise. 'Khaldoon and the owners are committed to the long-term building of the club,' said Cook. 'I don't necessarily think getting into the Europa League is going to impact on that. Everyone's ambitions are bigger than that.' Manager Mark Hughes claims improvements have been made internally and that he has been assured his job is safe.
