Short shock at Eriksson link

Former Notts County defender Craig Short has revealed his surprise at the news Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to take up a position with the League Two club. Reports have suggested that the former England and Manchester City boss is to take up an advisory position at Meadow Lane, possibly even as director of football to manager Ian McParland. The move comes on the back of the club's takeover by the Munto Finance group earlier this month and Short, who made 128 appearances for the Magpies before playing for Everton, Blackburn and Sheffield United, has admitted his astonishment at the story. "I'd been on a course all day and hadn't seen anything, then I heard a rumour of someone saying he was taking over," he told Press Association Sport. "I thought it was a joke actually. "It's amazing, he was the national coach of England and Mexico. The powers that be at Notts County have done a great job to get someone of his calibre in."
