The Manchester City midfielder is facing minor surgery on the knee problem that has seen him sidelined since the 3-1 Uefa Cup defeat at Hamburg on April 9. City manager Mark Hughes has admitted that the former Chelsea player will miss the season finale at home to Bolton on Sunday. England face mounting injury crisis ahead of World Cup qualifiers in JuneAnd Wright-Phillips is now also set to miss England's games against Kazakhstan and Andorra next month. Hughes said: "Shaun trained earlier in the week, but he had a reaction, so he will have to see a specialist. "He is obviously not available against Bolton at the weekend and he may well have to have a wash-out of the knee during the closed season. "That would enable him to start the pre-season campaign." England manager Fabio Capello has already lost goalkeepers David James and Ben Foster to neck and thumb injuries respectively this week. And Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing was ruled out on Thursday after scans revealed damage to a foot injured during Boro's game against Aston Villa last Saturday. While Wright-Phillips's injury is not considered one serious enough to threaten his prospects of starting next season, Hughes admits that the England double-header is beyond the player. Hughes said: "I'd expect that the injury would rule him out of the England games, which is a shame for him. "He has worked really hard to get fit, but he just keeps on getting a bit of swelling whenever he does physical work. "There is obviously some irritation in the knee that needs to be addressed, so we're going to have to look at that."
