Shaun Wright-Phillips and Manchester City at loggerheads over new contract

Manchester City have told Shaun Wright-Phillips they simply will not meet his new contract demands at Eastlands.[LNB]Talks between City and their popular winger have reached an impasse after football administrator Brian Marwood was taken aback by both the financial demands of Wright-Phillips' advisors and also the length of the contract the 28-year-old wants to sign.[LNB]Even though the England international has more than two years left on the £80,000-a-week deal he signed when he took a pay cut to rejoin the club from Chelsea in the summer of 2008, City were happy to open talks about an extension.[LNB]Highly inflated: Wright-Phillips[LNB]But with Wright-Phillips seeing a stream of players come to the club on more money than him since in the wake of the Abu Dhabi takeover of later that summer, his representatives have pitched their opening demands too high.[LNB]With players such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez and even Wayne Bridge earning more than Wright-Phillips, it is perhaps understandable that he is keen to get himself on a level footing.[LNB]Nevertheless, City sources say that Wright-Phillips will have to lower his sights and have even suggested he is unlikely to get what he is asking for at any other club in the Barclays Premier League either.[LNB]The talks have been taking place at a difficult time for Wright-Phillips as, in common with other City players, his form has dipped in recent times.[LNB]Speaking ahead of tonight's FA Cup replay with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium, coach Roberto Mancini said that some of his players must change their philosophy and their mentality if they are to make progress between now and the end of the season.[LNB]Mancini said: 'When I work I want to work very well and I want to work because I want to win. I don't work because I only enjoy playing football. This is different.[LNB]'If we want to win then we must change our mentality, we must work very well and we must think when we work.[LNB]'This is the most important thing. But I haven't got any problems with the players.[LNB]'I work because I think if you want to win the Premier League and the Champions League you must prepare every situation very well. If you don't do this then it's impossible to win. The players work very well.'[LNB]Mancini is hopeful that striker Tevez will be back in time for Saturday's big game at Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League.[LNB] Timely return? Tevez [LNB]Tevez is in Argentina with his wife and premature baby daughter but Mancini said: 'I think he come back Thursday or Friday morning. I'm sure of that.[LNB]'It's important he comes back Thursday or Friday because he can play against Chelsea.' Tevez WILL return to Man City side to face Chelsea, confirms boss ManciniRoberto Mancini warns Man City stars to stick with under-fire training methods to win the Champions LeagueMANCHESTER CITY FC
