Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo lay down a Manchester marker

The debate about which Premiership club boasts the best strike pairing will run for some time yet; probably until the end of the season.

Some are in the red corner with either Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie or Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge but, right now, I’m nailing my colours to the blue mast.

Sergio Aguero, in particular, and Alvaro Negredo, in recent weeks, have been in outstanding form for Manchester City and for me the ‘beauty and the best’ combo is the best in the business.

City colleague Samir Nasri agrees and says: “I think Negredo and Aguero are really complete together because one is small and quick with good feet and the other one is just a beast who can keep the ball and score goals.

“They have been banging in goals for fun, so maybe people should watch the game a little bit more and stop talking only about other teams’ strikers. For me Negredo and Aguero are the best.”

Never more so than against Tottenham yesterday when they led Michael Dawson and Co a merry dance as City sentenced Spurs to their biggest league defeat for 17 years.

Aguero was simply unplayable at times whilst Negredo lived up to his nickname of ‘The Beast’ with a powerful display as good as you will see from a player asked to lead the line.

Whilst Nasri and Jesus Navas also impressed in a performance manager Manuel Pellegrini said was ‘impossible to beat’ it was Aguero and Negredo who laid the foundations for a massive win.

Pellegrini was understandably delighted with his front two but he was keen to give credit to the team as a whole, and a couple of strikers waiting in the wings.

He said: “I think we have two very good strikers, but we can't forget about Dzeko, who is also a very good player and Jovetic, who is injured.

“I think that, here at home, to score 26 goals in six matches is not easy, but it's the whole team, not just Aguero and Negredo. The way the team plays is also very comfortable for them."

Certainly a rejuvenated Nasri and young City sensation Navas have played their part in helping Aguero and Negredo develop a wonderful understanding, and the Fab Four could all feature in the shake-up for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for November?
