Robinho: I wasn't dropped at Pompey, I asked City to rest me for Brazil

Robinho claims that he was not dropped for Manchester City's game at Portsmouth on Sunday and that he actually put country before club by asking to sit the 1-0 victory out. Craig Bellamy started ahead of Britain's most expensive footballer after Brazil star Robinho's poor performance in the Carling Cup tie at Crystal Palace, as reported by Sportsmail this week. But Robinho insists he was protecting a damaged ankle rather than being left out by manager Mark Hughes.
