08 March 2009 03:33
Robinho took advantage of a weekend off with Manchester City to take a 10,000-mile round-trip for treatment on a sprained ankle. At least the £34million signing from Real Madrid got permission thistime, having been fined for his unauthorised flight home from aTenerife training camp in January. But given the choice of having physio in Manchester or his homeland,Robinho chose sunny Sao Paulo, where temperatures exceeded 30 degreesCelcius during his stay. Robinho may be a former Santos player but, after leaving the club acrimoniously in 2005, he chose to instead enjoy the facilities at rival club Sao Paulo. The 25-year-old underwent four hours of fancy-named treatment over the weekend: lasertherapy, electrotherapy, cryotherapy, kinesiotherapy, mechanotherapy and iontophoresis. He returned to England on Sunday and will train today in theexpectation of being fit for Thursday's UEFA Cup last 16, first legmatch against Danish side Aalborg. Robinho said: 'This time spent (in Sao Paulo) is important for me to return well for Manchester City and help them in the next match. 'I thank all the physiotherapists and the president Juvenal Juvencio for opening the doors of the club to me.'
