Manchester Citywere in talks with Edin Dzeko's agent last night and hope to conclude a£35million deal for the Wolfsburg striker by the weekend.
Sportsmailexclusively revealed City's pursuit of the 24-year-old Bosnia strikerand the move has accelerated after Wolfsburg agreed to give under-firemanager Steve McClaren funds to build his own side.
Eastlandsbosses were discussing personal terms for Dzeko last night afteragreeing to pay Wolfsburg £28m up front and the rest based on City'sperformances and qualifying for the Champions' League.
Manager Roberto Mancini said: 'We have the chance to win the league this year and the decisive factor could be Edin Dzeko. This player can decide titles and that is why we want him.'
City also want to sign Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz for £8m then allow him to return on loan and have not yet given up on Benfica's £25m-rated defender David Luiz.
However, they are struggling to offload players with Roque Santa Cruz turning down a loan move to Lazio as he prefers a permanent deal.
West Ham continue to show interest in Wayne Bridge and Emmanuel Adebayor, who is also on Real Madrid's list of possible targets, but City insist they will not subsidise any deals.
One they may countenance however is Michael Johnson's proposed loan switch to Leeds United with Simon Grayson keen to take the young midfelder following his return to fitness.
