Richards believes the Blues must stop chopping and changing their managers if they are to achieve success. The Blues right-back has played under four bosses at Eastlands since breaking into the first team five years ago. Stuart Pearce, Sven- Goran Eriksson and Hughes ultimately failed to do enough to hang on to the job, but Richards is hoping Mancini will. The Italian has launched a staunch defence of his City record as he prepares to take on Hughes? Fulham at Craven Cottage. Mancini insists the Blues have improved under his leadership. They have 22 points from their first 13 games, the same as they had under Hughes last season ? but lie fourth, two places higher than at this stage 12 months ago. Academy graduate Richards admits he still thinks fondly of Hughes, but believes that the current City boss is the man to take them to the Champions League. ?We?ve not talked about the Fulham game that much,? Richards said. ?We?re just focused on getting the three points. ?It will be nice to see Mark Hughes. I think all the boys will be shaking his hand. He did a nice job here. But he?s moved on now. ?I?ve played under four managers in the first team, and they?ve all been great for me. But it is hard as a player when there?s chopping and changing of managers all the time. ?It would be nice if we could keep one for a while and give him a really good chance to see what he can do.? Asked about the differences between Mancini and Hughes, Richards added: ?Mancini?s an Italian manager. They tend to be a bit more defensive. Mark Hughes was a bit more attacking. ?But they?re both good managers in different ways. I think the club are moving in the right direction. The league position is improving season on season but you can?t really judge us now. Judge us at the end of the season. ?We hope that by then, we?ll have a Champions League spot to look forward to.?
