Richards backs Mancini's style

Micah Richards insists manager Roberto Mancini has the right approach to bring success to Manchester City.[LNB] Mancini's hard line style of management has inevitably caused friction amongst some of his players in City's expensively assembled dressing room. [LNB]City, who are currently second in the Premier League, face Arsenal at Eastlands on Sunday, in what will be a stern examination of their title credentials. [LNB]Richards, however, believes he has improved as a result of Mancini's methods and feels it is only a matter of time before the entire squad have too. [LNB]"He keeps his distance from players - some managers do that," he told The Observer. [LNB]"But he still gets his point across. He doesn't keep himself apart in a negative way, more in a positive way: he's the head and what he says goes. [LNB]"I think that's the way to get respect, especially when you have world stars as City have now. [LNB]"He sets the standard, and you get the detail from other people. That's what Brian Kidd and David Platt [Mancini's assistants] are here for.[LNB]"If we need to ask anything, they speak English; the manager's learning to speak English, so sometimes it's hard for him to get the point across in the way that he'd like to.[LNB]"But on the training pitch, he's very involved, he's a good coach. He's taught me a lot since he's been here. [LNB]"That's his style of management, some like it, some don't. But I think if you want to get places, you need to get under his wing and do what he says." [LNB]Sheikh Mansour's vast wealth has allowed City to splurge cash at will on new signings and it is this type of financial backing that is allowing Richards to flourish in the company of more celebrated names. [LNB]"With the owners coming in, it's more realistic that we could achieve something," he added. [LNB]"Then when the first major signing is Robinho, the fans start to think that something could happen. And, after Robinho, comes a squad full of world-class players. [LNB]"People started taking us seriously when we got Carlos Tevez from United. Last season he was inspirational. [LNB]"He's probably one of the best players that I've played with. Now people look at us as a top four team and we've not really had any time to gel. [LNB]"I'm still learning, and the better the players I play with, the more it benefits me. Kolo Toure came from Arsenal, a team I supported, I looked up to him, and he gave me some pointers. It's good to be around stars, and still be here."
