Premier League live: Manchester United v Manchester City from Old Trafford

12 February 2011 14:40
FULL-TIME SCORE: Manchester United 2 Manchester City 1[LNB]It's over and City's title hopes are officially over as are Chelsea's. If Arsenal don't beat Wolves today, their hopes will be over as well.[LNB]United are just keeping the ball now, City just chasing shadows.[LNB]Four minutes of stoppage time...[LNB]88min: Giggs fouls Tevez and gets a yellow card. Free kick City. Van der Saar drops the ball under pressure from Kompany and gets a free kick that he shouldn't have. [LNB]85min: City's seventh corner of the match. Cleared. And now Dzeko is off the pitch with a blood injury caused by what looked like a Vidic arm at the corner. Bandaged up, he returns.[LNB]81min: Poor first touch from Dzeko when in space sees a shot clear the bar.[LNB]'Tevez, tevez, what's the score?' chant the United fans. Surely they should know unless they can't count that high...[LNB] What a goal: Wayne Rooney puts United 2-1 up[LNB]78min: GOAL - Manchester United 2 Manchester City 1[LNB]Dazzling overhead kick by Wayne Rooney from 12 yards, arrows into the top corner from Nani's cross from the right. Stunner - nothing odd or freaky about that. City won't recover from that and United are going seven points clear. Just when Michael Owen was warming up...[LNB]Carrick now on for Scholes and United look to shut the match down.[LNB]74min: Nani dances through but ends a 40-yard run with a poor shot.[LNB]City are a yard quicker and a foot taller now...[LNB]67min: Berbatov on for Anderson. The 20-goal man is at last unleashed by United. The Bulgarian has only ever scored one goal as a sub - and that was in the Community Shield.[LNB]66min: Scholes booked for foul on Richards.[LNB] We're level: Gareth Barry, Edin Dzeko and Shaun Wright-Phillips celebrate with teammates after David Silva's equaliser[LNB]65min: GOAL - Manchester United 1 Manchester City 1[LNB]Terrible cross from SWP dribbles to Dzeko whose shot slams into the backside of Silva and into the corner. What an odd goal completely out of nothing.[LNB]63min: Dzeko stays down after a tasty tackle. Then he gets up...[LNB]60min: Sub - Dzeko on for Milner who picked up a hamstring injury a minute ago. Dzeko scored for Wolfsburg here in the Champions League so he knows where the goal is.[LNB]To be honest, City don't look like they are going to score here. United have slowed the game right down and keeping the Blues well away from goal.[LNB]57min: What a tackle by Kompany on Rooney in the area but he then gives the ball to Nani who shoots wide.[LNB] Kept out: Chris Smalling denies Manchester City's Carlos Tevez[LNB] 54min: Terrible backpass from Scholes gifts City a corner. It becomes a second corner and not properly cleared until Silva shoots at Van der Saar. Silva had the whole orld to aim at and picked out the foot-wide barrier that is the Dutchman. Another waste.[LNB]51min: Sub - Shaun Wright-Phillips on for Kolarov. Get ready for some low crosses that may or may not reach the penalty area. [LNB]48min: Corner City - that's each today but it comes to nowt.[LNB]No changes for either team at the break so Dzeko stays warming the bench.[LNB]HALF-TIME: Manchester United 1 Manchester City 0[LNB]Tevez looks like he won the right to play today in a raffle - he can't do a thing right. United, however, are now in total control and will look to extend this lead in the two added minutes.[LNB] It's there: Wayne Rooney and Nani celebrate the goal[LNB]42min: Milner booked for nasty challenge on Rooney.[LNB]41min: GOAL - Manchester United 1 Manchester City 0[LNB]Rooney finally wins a ball in the air from a big boot from the keeper, Giggs feeds Nani and the Portuguese powers into the area and sends a shot into the corner for his tenth goal of the season.  Harsh on City who don't deserve to be losing. Route one football at its best.[LNB]37min: Silva hammers a shot into Evra and it's wide for a corner - he wanted a penalty but that would have been a very harsh handball.[LNB]34min: Excellent cross by Giggs from the left headed powerfully goalward by Fletcher but straight at keeper Hart.[LNB] Key battle: Vincent Kompany was booked for a foul on Wayne Rooney [LNB]31min: Kolarov sends a tame shot high and wide from 20 yards. First shot for a long time as the pace of the match has slowed right down.[LNB]Silva, who is everywhere, is gliding and floating around like the world class player City paid a fortune for while Richards looks every inch an international. Tevez is an onlooker while Rooney is huffing and puffing.[LNB]18min: Kompany booked for late tackle on Rooney. He'll have to be careful now. Rooney is starting to 'bubble under' at the closeness of proximity of Mr Kompany and gets a talking-to from the ref.[LNB]Rooney, however, looks unhappy...[LNB]15min: Deft pass from Silva to Yaya and his driven cross blocked by Smalling in front of goal. City are the better team so far and look like they want to win this one despite pre-match reports otherwise. They may rue these missed chances though...[LNB] No laughing matter: Nemanja Vidic of Manchester United and Micah Richards of Manchester City get into a tangle with the assistant referee[LNB]13min: Free kick City from the left, headed across goal and wide by Yaya Toure. This is an open game. [LNB]10min: Nani cuts inside and arrows a shot a yard over the bar from just outside the area.[LNB]The ball is moving at 100mph out there but sticking to the feet of both teams. This has the look a classic match even at this early stage.[LNB]4min: Great slick passing puts Silva clean through eight yards from goal - he looks offside but isn't - but he sends a tame shot wide across goal. What a wasted opportunity for City. Nobody can believe he missed it.[LNB] Familiar faces: United legend David Beckham in the stands with his children Cruz (left), Romeo (centre) and Brooklyn at Old Trafford[LNB]United respond with three quick corners...that come to nothing.[LNB]3min: Hardmen Richards and Vidic clash on the touchline and send the linesman flying. Stop sniggering at the back...[LNB]Interesting to see how United respond to their first League defeat of the season last week. Home fans are certainly giving Tevez the bird with jeers at every touch. [LNB]1min: Zabaletta concedes a corner after 15 seconds that comes to nothing.[LNB]Will United make it a two-horse title race by beating their bitterest rivals at the Theatre of Dreams?[LNB]Ready for action: Wayne Rooney[LNB]Or will City close the gap on the Premier League leaders to points with only their second win at Old Trafford since 1974?[LNB]It's certainly the most intriguing Manchester derby since the swinging 60s when both teams were vying for the League title - and usually winning it.[LNB]United start the day five points clear of the cash-rich sky blues having played a game less. And although they want to make sure they don't lose, let's hope for a better spectacle than the dreary 0-0 draw at Eastlands earlier this season.[LNB]It couldn't be any worse than that sterile, cagey encounter, classically forged by Italian defensive mastermind Roberto Mancini.[LNB]Big-money striking duo Dimitar Berbatov and Edin Dzeko can do no better than a place on the bench.[LNB]Berbartov is obviously being saved for the Crawley Town FA Cup match next week...[LNB]Both managers opted to play two wide-men in a three-man attack, with Ryan Giggs and Nani supporting Wayne Rooney and former United man Carlos Tevez being flanked by Aleksandar Kolarov and David Silva.[LNB]Midfield anchor Nigel de Jong was missing with an ankle injury, which meant James Milner started in midfield as City looked to cut into United's five-point advantage at the top of the Premier League.[LNB]Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Rooney, Giggs.Subs: Lindegaard, Brown, Owen, Berbatov, Hernandez, Carrick, Rafael Da Silva.[LNB]Man City: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Zabaleta, Milner, Barry, Toure Yaya, Kolarov, Silva, Tevez. Subs: Given, Wright-Phillips, Dzeko, Boateng, Vieira, Jo, Toure.[LNB]Referee: Andre Marriner (W Midlands)[LNB] Manchester legend Denis Law: It's the 60s all over again with City challenging United to be kings of England Tevez in derby drama!
