Poster war erupts in Manchester as City fans aim cheeky dig at Michael Owen

The poster war between fans of Manchester rivals United and City has escalated after a spoof email has poked fun at the Red Devils' latest star signing. The spoof email image takes the mickey out of the champions' new recruit Michael Owen, who was signed on a free after his contract at Newcastle expired, and his less-than-impressive injury record. The missive also has a further dig at the fact that Old Trafford does not lie within the city of Manchester boundaries. The emailed effort from a witty member of the Eastlands faithful comes as a riposte after United fans splattered the first City wind-up attempt with red paint. A huge poster of Carlos Tevez, who has moved from United to Eastlands this summer, was erected near Manchester's Harvey Nichols store in an attempt to get up Red Devils' fans noses. The ploy appeared to have worked perfectly after supporters of the Champions League runners-up used rolled-up socks dipped in red paint to splatter the offending image.
