Pellegrini Gets To Work

Manuel Pellegrini has started work at Manchester City, spending his first official day touring the Premier League club's facilities.

While rival boss David Moyes began his new role as Manchester United manager down the road, Pellegrini arrived to start planning in earnest how to wrestle back the Premier League trophy from Old Trafford.

The former Malaga boss, who was officially confirmed as Roberto Mancini's replacement last month, flew into Manchester on Sunday morning, joined by right-hand man Ruben Cousillas and fitness coach Jose Cabello.

With expectant owners and fans, Pellegrini will be keen to stay ahead in the transfer market after a double swoop for Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho and Spanish winger Jesus Navas.

A striker appears the next priority, following Carlos Tevez's departure to Juventus, with Brazil's Confederation Cup winner Fred thought to be a prime target.

While Pellegrini and Moyes will do fresh battle for superiority in city and league, the Chilean is likely to have a third title challenger in Jose Mourinho, back at Chelsea for a second spell.

City host United on September 21, before travelling to Stamford Bridge on October 26, but start their Premier League campaign at home to Newcastle on August 17.
