Manchester City Academy graduate Nedum Onuoha has signed a new five-year contract at Eastlands. The 22-year-old, who finished last season on a superb run, has put pen-to-paper in a deal which will see him at the club until the summer of 2014. Onuoha joins the likes of Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure, who have all agreed summer deals with the club. Putting to bed rumours of an Eastland's exit, Onuoha admits he is looking forward to the challenge of competing for a starting berth in Mark Hughes' side. "I am really, really happy," he told the club's official website. "This is a great place for any young player to be. Hopefully it will be the start of another good five years for me and for the club. "This is a season that we will be looking right towards the top of the table." He added: "There is a brilliant mix here in terms of the squad. There are a lot of big signings that have been made but there are also plenty of lads who have come through the Academy and I think that is an important thing." City boss Mark Hughes expressed his delight in the deal, saying: "Nedum is a very important part of my future plans for the team, and I am very pleased he has decided to extend his contract with us. "Nedum has huge potential for the future and is another shining example of the kind of quality our Academy can produce for Manchester City football club."
