League One outfit Oldham have dismissed rumours that former Manchester City chairman John Wardle is set to join the club's board. Wardle was reportedly due to invest in the club and become a director, but chief executive Alan Hardy has confirmed this is not the case. He told the club's official website: "John is a good friend of the club and has been to watch us this season. He has also called in for a chat over a cup of coffee with me, Simon Corney and Joe [Royle] recently. "However, John does not want to get involved with any club at present. It is fair to say he has considered it but with his other interests, and after discussing things with his family, he feels it is not what he wants at this stage. "John remains a good friend to us and is willing to offer advice if ever it is needed. If he did want to get involved in football again in future years I would expect that Oldham would be his first choice. "John has had an association with the club since the mid 1990s when JD Sports were our main sponsors so we go back a long way and I expect our friendship will continue for many more years."
