Kevin de Bruyne does not think there are any issues between his club and country team-mate Vincent Kompany and their Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Pellegrini expressed frustration that Kompany played for Belgium after a spell out injured last week and has surprisingly named him on the bench for the two City games since.
Kompany appeared only as an injury time substitute in Wednesday's Champions League win over Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium and Pellegrini has offered no guarantees the defender will return for Sunday's derby at Manchester United.
But after Kompany missed five games with a calf strain prior to the recent international break, De Bruyne thinks the manager might be being cautious.
He said: "Vinny will play his games. I don't know what they talked about together, so maybe Vinny will be there on Sunday.
"I don't know, that is something between the manager and him. Maybe he wants him to train a little bit to be fully fit without any risks. I don't see any problems at the moment."
Kompany did not give media interviews after City beat Sevilla 2-1 with a late De Bruyne goal but did seem in good spirits as he left the stadium.
"He is acting normal," De Bruyne said. "I think everything is fine."
De Bruyne himself has been in superb form since his £54million August move from Wolfsburg.
His injury-time winner against Sevilla was his fifth goal in seven starts and he could find himself a marked man in this weekend's eagerly-anticipated Barclays Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
But the 24-year-old said: "If they put maybe two people on me that means somebody else has more space. I think we have such a great team.
"At this level it is very difficult to put two people on one guy in the big games. If they do that somebody else will be free and get more chances to do something for us."
De Bruyne has already played in a variety of attacking positions in his fledgling City career and has proved highly effective in each of them. He has played on the left, the right, behind a central striker and finished against Sevilla as the centre forward.
His versatility could become a highly effective weapon for City and he has no preference of role.
He said: "It doesn't matter. I have been thrown everywhere in my career. You can have one good game on the right, another on the left.
"Centre forward is not something I am used to but I have done it a couple of times. If he (Pellegrini) asks me to do it I will do it."
De Bruyne is now looking forward to the derby but has no interest in personal glory.
He said: "It doesn't matter if I score or give an assist or do nothing. In the end the most important thing is to get the three points and that's it."
