New Manchester City boss Pellegrini targets league title

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is focused on bringing a second Barclays Premier League title to the club - and believes his side will come out on top in the battle with Manchester United.

The Chilean was speaking to the English media for the first time before City's trip to South Africa for the first leg of a pre-season tour alongside midfielder Fernandinho - recently recruited from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The former Malaga boss recognised the desire for a strong season in Europe, following two disappointing Champions League campaigns under predecessor Roberto Mancini, but he stressed a quest to recover the league title from champions United would not be sidelined.

He said: "I know the last two years were not very good in the Champions League and I will try to improve that. That's not the only thing, though, and I will try to get another Premier League title.

"When Manchester City won the league it was one of the most important things for the club and we will try to repeat it.

"But we don't have priority for one competition and we will try to do our best in all of them."
