Manchester City midfielder James Milner has stressed there is still plenty of adjustment going on at the club and expressed his confidence the Blues will keep improving as the season continues.
There was considerable change at City over the summer, with Manuel Pellegrini succeeding Roberto Mancini as manager and the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic, Jesus Navas, Fernandinho and Martin Demichelis added to the playing staff.
Their start to the 2013-14 campaign has been mixed, with notable highs being a 4-0 win over Newcastle and 4-1 victory against Manchester United, both at home in the Barclays Premier League.
City have also suffered top-flight defeats at Cardiff and Aston Villa, and they were beaten 3-1 at home by Bayern Munich last week in the Champions League.
Reflecting on how things have gone so far this term, Milner, quoted by the Manchester Evening News, said: "The performances against Newcastle and Manchester United are the stand-out ones and it goes without saying we have to make sure we try to play that well every time we go out.
"We are still adjusting to a number of things. There's a higher tempo at training under Manuel and we do a lot more small-sided games than we used to so it's very different.
"Every manager has their own style and way of working but I'm enjoying it. It's intense but hopefully the fruits of all the hard work we're putting in will show out on the pitch.
"The one thing you can guarantee is that we will create a lot of chances and as we get a better understanding of how each other plays, I think we'll get better and better as a team."
Milner added: "We are still learning under the new manager and it takes time for the new players to bed in. We're also still getting to know each other and things like that don't happen overnight.
"Even English players can take a year or so to settle in at a new club so coming from overseas must be even more difficult - but they seem to be settling in from what I've seen.
