McIlroy: Roo won't find City life easy

Sammy McIlroy believes Wayne Rooney could face a tough time if he makes the move across Manchester.[LNB] United boss Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday confirmed in a statement that Rooney's representatives had told chief executive David Gill on August 14 that the player wanted to leave Old Trafford.[LNB]Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with moves for the England striker.[LNB]City boss Roberto Mancini this morning insisted there had been no contact with their rivals over Rooney - but McIlroy would not rule out the player moving across the city.[LNB]He said: "It's an unbelievable situation. Carlos Tevez has done the same thing and at the moment has done very well.[LNB]"But to go just across the water with the fans at United loving him, he could be in for a rough ride.[LNB]"There was talk of a new contract and how he was going to stay for life, now he doesn't want to sign it...it's baffling me to be honest with you."[LNB]McIlroy, who played nearly 350 games for United between 1971 and 1982 and also represented City later in his career, continued on BBC Radio Five Live: "Wayne thinks he's in a bit of a goldfish bowl at the moment, if he goes across the town it'll be even bigger."[LNB]The 56-year-old, now manager of Morecambe, continued: "Agents can do their job without the player getting involved and he's probably had an offer he couldn't really refuse.[LNB]"From what I hear Manchester United have offered him the best contract they've offered any player - but City can top that.[LNB]"He was a young boy when he was at Everton and they were devastated when he left - and it'll be the same at Manchester United if he does leave them.[LNB]"I listened to Sir Alex yesterday. United have helped Wayne since he was a young lad leaving Everton, they were there for him.[LNB]"Now they want him to stay and show a bit of loyalty - but unfortunately these days it doesn't happen and loyalty seems to go out the window.[LNB]"Lots of fans will probably be hoping he does change his mind and I think Sir Alex wants him to - but these days money talks."
