Martin Jol denies rumours he will replace Mark Hughes at Manchester City

Last weekend saw City supporters turn on Hughes after their defeat to Fulham, adding fuel to speculation that the 45-year-old's days are numbered. Chants of "you don't know what you're doing" echoed around the stadium at full time after the London side pulled the game back to win 3-1, despite condeding the first goal. Denying there is any truth in whispers of a return to England, Jol, who could expect to earn a substantial pay rise with the Premier League club, has praised his current employers and stressed the importance of tradition over money. "We are a fantastic club with great fans, a great environment which not many clubs in Europe can boast," he said. "I am very happy here and the conditions to work in are excellent. "HSV is a club with an excellent tradition and there are only three or four clubs like that in England." Dismissing the rumours as a nuisance, the Dutchman added: "These things really bother me, I am not thinking about it in the slightest. "I could imagine working here for a lot longer." Hamburg travel to Eastlands this week for the second leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final tie, and if City fail to recover from the 3-1 deficit, Jol may well experience first hand the discontent fans hold for Hughes. Another added pressure for Hughes this week is news that club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak is flying to watch the tie.
