Mancini primed for historic derby

Roberto ManciniManchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Wayne Bridge and Stephen Ireland will be fit for a derby that describes as "the most important in the history of the club". Bridge has been out with a hernia problem and Ireland an ankle injury, but they have trained this week and Mancini confirmed they are both fit for selection. Brazilian full-back Silvinho is doubtful with a calf injury as City face up to what their manager believes is a hugely significant run-in. ?These are important games,? said Mancini. ?The last month of the season will be fantastic for us. After Saturday we have four games left and they are going to be the most important in the history of the club.? The statement emphasises just how important forcing their way into a prized Champions League berth is to City, given the investment that is likely to follow. ?It is important we finish in fourth because we can change the way we are going,? said Mancini. ?It would put us in the Champions League next year and that would make it easier to get the players we want.? Mancini refused to confirm an intention to sign Hamburg defender Jerome Boateng, who is tipped to make an £11million summer switch to the Eastlands outfit. However, he is an admirer of the Germany international. ?He is only young but he is a good player,? said Mancini. ?We have followed him, like we have followed a lot of players but I don?t think we will decide what to do until after this season is over.? Do you agree? Have your say.| Submit Comments| Comments (74)| PrintWhat's this?
