Mancini planning summer raid on former club Manchester City for midfield star Yaya Toure

Former Manchester City Boss, Roberto Mancini, has expressed his desire to bring talismanic midfielder, Yaya Toure, to the San Siro. Any possible negotiations will likely not start until the summer, with Toure on National Duty for the African Nations Cup, and with Manchester City’s Champions League and Premier League fate still up in the air. However, Mancini, in his second stint with Inter Milan is very interested.

"Yaya is one of the strongest players in the world," he told Italian newspaper Il Giornale.

"He has played in so many teams. He has been in leagues in Belgium, Russia, Spain and England. Italy is the one missing. This could be the right opportunity for him to come and try.

"We are building a team. There are players that change the look of a team, and Yaya is one of them.

"Next year we could try. We need to bring three champions, and we will see that we will be ready to fight for the Scudetto."

Yaya Toure has perhaps had his best seasons, this current one and last year’s successful title triumph, under Manuel Pellegrini. However, he has frequently been linked with a move ever since the birthday scandal in Abu Dhabi at the back end of last season. Paris Saint Germain looked to be a very likely destination at one point. Additionally, with age being a factor as well as the fact that his deal will expire after the 2017 season, the Citizens may look to offload the influential midfielder sooner rather than later, if the rumors ever look set to become reality. Personally I was not impressed with his behavior during the birthday cake incident, or his professionalism at the start of this current season. But, with his brother having died this summer I can understand the slow start. Certainly he has proven that it was just fatigue and or grief that needed wearing off. I cannot pretend to know what will happen. Right now his sale seems implausible to say the least. But, if City finishes this season trophy-less then maybe a restructure is in order anyway. If one thing is for sure, Manchester City will not cope for too long with the age of their squad being what it is currently.
