Manchester City's summer sell-off to fund spending spree

Mark Hughes plans a major clear-out this summer to prepare for the biggest spending spree in Manchester City's history. Hughes is looking to offload up to 16 players and clear the decks for big-name targets Ronaldinho, Franck Ribery, Roque Santa Cruz and Thierry Henry. Chelsea are also keen on Ronaldinho, who has struggled to make an impact at AC Milan, and coach Carlo Ancelotti yesterday indicated the 29-year-old is no longer part of his plans. City's Arab owners expect Hughes to finance part of the recruitment drive by clearing the decks. Dietmar Hamann, Darius Vassell and Benjani are expected to be among those to leave, and they could be joined by Elano, Tal Ben Haim, Glauber Berti, Gelson Fernandes and possibly Felipe Caicedo or Javier Garrido.
